I’m a freelance writer in Charlotte, North Carolina, where I live with my husband, two kids, and my dog, Shaggy. I’ve always been a writer, but I spent some of my professional life as a computer programmer, shoe salesperson, musical transcriptionist, school librarian, and amusement park groundskeeper. I like writing better.

One of my favorite things about writing is learning about new topics. I’ve done that by writing thirteen articles on NASCAR for a website branded by Ford, writing msn.com shopping guides for everything from fishing poles to chaises, and writing a profile on a chocolatier. (Well, I admit I knew a little bit about chocolate.)

The other thing I love about writing is that feeling I get when I really nail a sentence, or a paragraph, or an essay. That’s what motivates me to keep refining my craft and typing letters onto blank screens. When my essays speak to editors and readers, and end up places like O, Parents, Brain,Child Magazine, Christian Science Monitor, and The Washington Post, well, that doesn’t hurt either.
